Voting open for TBM naming competition

Crossrail have published the shortlisted entries for the tunnel boring machine naming competition and opened the public voting.

Crossrail received a fantastic response to the naming competition with some very clever, creative and even amusing names suggested from across the UK. The panel has whittled the list down to 10 pairs of names and they are now asking you to vote for your favourite pair of names by simply filling in the form below.

The shortlisted entries feature ideas inspired by British heritage, literature, London life, transport, engineering, as well as famous Britons.

Changes to travel around Paddington Station due to Crossrail works

Bus diversions and changes to local stopping arrangements.

Changes to taxi drop-off and pick up points. Alterations to local walking routes.

Eastbourne Terrace will be closed from this Sunday (12 February) with changes to bus, taxi and walking routes as work continues on a new Crossrail station at Paddington.

The new Crossrail station will be built under Eastbourne Terrace and Departures Road.

To enable excavation of the 260-metre-long station box, Eastbourne Terrace will need to be closed for two years.

Crossrail awards contract to ship excavated material to Wallasea Island

Crossrail have awarded the contract to ship excavated material arising from Crossrail’s construction to Wallasea Island, Essex to create a new RSPB nature reserve.

This innovative project aims to combat threats from climate change and coastal flooding by recreating a wetland landscape. It will also help to compensate for the loss of similar tidal habitats elsewhere in England due to rising sea levels. Crossrail will provide around 4.5 million tonnes of excavated material to RSPB generated from the construction of tunnels, shafts and stations.
